Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM Bulgaria is opening 2023 z/OS Software Development Internship Program in IBM Client Innovation Center, Sofia!

Our 6-month training program is aimed to prepare and develop students for a wide variety of positions in software development, DevOps engineering and Test/Quality assurance.

During the learning journey the Intern will gain new skills on the specific skill set that is needed to be actively engaged in day-to-day software development processes in IBM.

During the whole program extensive training and workshop sessions will be conducted, in order to obtain not only technical knowledge and understanding of z/OS OS and its components, but also proficient communication skills and corporate culture.

An experienced engineer – Mentor – will be assigned to the intern, to provide support and guidance throughout the learning journey.

You will learn how to:

• Use in an appropriate way IBM communication channels (mail, Slack, etc.)
• Interpret online manuals regarding IBM code and application interfaces
• Communicate with international teams
• Develop and demonstrate expertise in z/OS software development practices, DevOps methodologies or test scenarios
• Demonstrate soft skills and technical skills that contributes to client satisfaction
• Contribute positively towards the achievement of performance targets in all aspects of the team’s activities

You will practice how to:

• Apply DevOps principals in the build and service process
• Collaborate with z/OS Build Team and DevOps technical leaders
• Directly serving IBM’s internal z/OS product development and test groups – hundreds of engineers across IBM z/OS operating system and middleware software engineers
• Learn to enhance, maintain, and support our current DevOps catalog and microservices – mainly consisting of code to leverage industry standard DevOps tools on the IBM Z platform
• Develop, test, and deploy tools and services to assist the z/OS products during their lifecycle of development and test activities – development ‘nightly’ builds and final product release for external customers
• Preparing, running, monitoring, and resolving the results of modern Jenkins pipelines

This internship may have flexible working schedule.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Being an active University student in technical subject
• Fluent level of English language skills, both verbal and written
• Excellent communication skills

• Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
• Basic knowledge in any scripting languages: Bash shell, Python, and Groovy/Java
• Acquired knowledge of industry standard technologies including Git, Jenkins Pipelines and/or an automated build tool such as maven
• Acquired knowledge of the software development lifecycle and Agile patterns
